Kitchen Gardeners International: Michael Pollan’s nine-step program.

1. Eat food.
2. Avoid even those food products that come bearing health claims.
3. Especially avoid food products containing ingredients that are a) unfamiliar, b) unpronounceable c) more than five in number — or that contain high-fructose corn syrup.
4. Get out of the supermarket whenever possible.
5. Pay more, eat less.
6. Eat mostly plants, especially leaves.
7. Eat more like the French. Or the Japanese. Or the Italians. Or the Greeks.
8. Cook. And if you can, plant a garden.
9. Eat like an omnivore.

I thought this was an interesting article. For my lifestyle, it’s a little unrealistic, and I think that’s ok. I’m an active person, I eat healthy for the most part, and I have my vices, like soda and cheeseburgers. I think as long as it’s in moderation, consuming a few unnatural things, even HFCS, is okay.

I took this to heart. But maybe that’s because I’m 55 — or 56, I keep forgetting. I’ve sort-of been on this plan for a long time, though in a completely slipshod fashion. I think the two best pieces of advice are “eat leaves” & that’s hard for me having been brought up on cheeseburgers; but also “eat like the French.” I take this to mean enjoy your effing food. The grave’s a fine & private place but none I think do there masticate. So let us sport us while we may & etc.
